Concrete retaining walls in Georgia

Poured concrete and reinforced block retaining walls for slopes, driveways cut into a hill, raised patios and garden terraces, with the footing and drainage that keep them standing.

How we do it

  1. 1

    Site assessment

We measure the height, look at what the wall holds back (soil, a driveway, a slope) and tell you whether the county wants an engineered design and a permit.

  2. 2

    Footing

A footing sized for the wall height and the load behind it, below grade, with the rebar that ties the wall to it.

  3. 3

    The wall

Poured concrete in forms, or reinforced block with grouted cores, to the designed height.

  4. 4

    Drainage and backfill

Gravel backfill, drain tile and weep holes so water never builds up behind the wall. This is the part that fails on cheap walls.

  5. 5

    Finish

Waterproofing on the back face; a smooth, textured or veneer finish on the front.

Options and finishes

  • Poured concrete walls

Strong, slim and clean-lined; the best choice for driveway cuts and tall walls.

  • Reinforced block walls

Concrete block with rebar and grouted cores, finished with stucco or stone veneer.

  • Terraces and seat walls

Low walls that turn a slope into usable yard, or edge a patio with seating.

What's in our estimate

Every estimate is written, itemized and free. For concrete retaining walls it covers:

  • A footing sized for the wall and the soil behind it
  • Forms, rebar and the poured wall, or reinforced block with grouted cores
  • Drainage: gravel backfill, drain tile and weep holes
  • Waterproofing on the back face and finish on the front
  • Engineering and a permit where the county requires them

What moves the price

  • Wall height and length
  • What the wall holds back and the surcharge above it
  • Engineering and permits where required
  • Footing size and reinforcement
  • Drainage and backfill
  • Finish and veneer

National price ranges, with sources, are in our cost guide. Your written estimate is the real number for your site.

Working in Georgia's weather

Our summers are hot enough to change how we schedule and cure a pour, and north Georgia gets enough freezing nights in winter that we plan cold-weather protection from December to February. Every city page shows the local numbers and what we do about them. Permits differ from one city or county to the next; we tell you which apply and pull them as part of the job.

Why homeowners choose us

A written estimate you can compare

Thickness, base depth, reinforcement and finish are spelled out line by line, so you can hold any other quote against it.

One call, then a date

We call back to confirm the details, usually the same business day, and book the visit at a time that suits you. No chasing.

Insured crews, permits pulled

General liability insurance on every job, the certificate with your estimate, and we pull the permits your city or county requires.

Frequently asked questions

When does a retaining wall need an engineer?

+

Many Georgia jurisdictions require engineering and a permit above a certain height, often around 4 feet, or for walls with a slope or driveway above them. We check with the county building office before we quote.

Why do retaining walls fail?

+

Almost always water. Without gravel backfill, drain tile and weep holes, saturated soil pushes the wall over. Drainage is in every wall we build.

What to have ready

None of it is required to send the request. It just makes the callback shorter and the estimate more accurate.

  • The property address, so we can check the permit office and get the right crew
  • Rough dimensions: pace it out, or size it with our concrete calculator
  • What it's for: cars, a work truck, a hot tub, a shed, foot traffic
  • A couple of photos of the area and the route a concrete truck would take
  • Anything you've noticed about water: puddles, a downspout, a low corner
  • When you'd like it done
